Types of contributions accepted

The conference proposes paper presentation sessions, workshops (gaming or other activity), a poster session and a game exhibition, as well as the possibility to organize your own thematic session (mini symposium or panel discussion) during the conference. All these sessions will be in-person only in La Rochelle.

For those who cannot travel, online-only paper presentation sessions will be organized the 28th June, few days before the conference in La Rochelle.

How and when to submit 

All submissions are to be made directly on the dedicated website: https://www.conftool.org/isaga2023

Please check below, the details and requirements for each type of contribution.

Submission schedule (updated)

  • 13th February 2023 – Submission deadline for Papers, Extended abstracts, and Thematic sessions
    • Extended deadline: 27th February 
  • 6th March 2023 – Submission deadline for Posters, Game demonstration workshops, Thematic activity workshops, and Game exhibition stands
  • 14th March 2023 – Notification of acceptance
    • Shifted to 21st March
  • 2nd May 2023 – Delivery of the final versions for Papers, Extended abstract, and Thematic sessions
  • 22nd May 2023 – Delivery of the final version of the abstract for Posters, Game demonstration workshops, Thematic activity workshops, and Game exhibition stands

 

 

Contribution details for the conference in La Rochelle (in-person only – 4th to 7th July)

Full paper, in-person:

Contribution for a in-person presentation at a paper session during the conference at La Rochelle. The paper will be considered for publication in an international journal after the conference.
- Main text: 3,000 to 5,000 words (6 to 11 pages), excluding references, figures and tables. Use the Template available for donwload at the bottom of this page
- Separate abstract required: 200 to 250 words
- double-blind peer review process
- We highly encourage submissions that align with the theme of the conference (Simulation and Gaming for social and environmental transitions)

If accepted:
- will be included in the proceedings and as a in-person presentation in a paper session
- the abstract will be included in the conference abstract booklet
- best full papers will be selected after the conference, by a juried peer review, to be published in a special issue of an international journal

Extended abstract, in-person:

Contribution for a in-person presentation at a paper session during the conference at La Rochelle.
- Main text: 700 to 1,000 words (1.5 to 2 pages), excluding references, figures and tables. Use the Template available for donwload at the bottom of this page
- Separate abstract required: 200 to 250 words
- double-blind peer review process
- We encourage submissions that align with the theme of the conference (Simulation and Gaming for social and environmental transitions)

If accepted:
- will be included in the proceedings and as a in-person presentation in a paper session
- the abstract will be included in the conference abstract booklet 

Poster:

Contribution for a poster to be presented in-person during the poster session at La Rochelle.
- Submit a text of 300 to 600 words, presenting the outline of the poster. Drafts of the figures and tables, as well as the list of references, that will appear on the poster, can be added
- Separate abstract required: 200 to 250 words
- juried peer review process
- We encourage submissions that align with the theme of the conference, but it is not compulsory

If accepted:
- the abstract will be included in the conference abstract booklet
- the poster should be ready and printed, the day before the poster the session 

Game demonstration workshop:

Facilitate a gaming workshop of 60, 90, 120, or 180-minutes during the conference at La Rochelle. The workshop should include playing and debriefing a gaming simulation.

- Submit a text of about 300 words, structured according to the template available for download at the bottom of this page, explaining the duration of the workshop, the number of participants required, the timing and purpose of the workshop, and the materials needed
- Separate abstract required: 200 to 250 words
- juried peer review process
- We highly encourage submissions that align with the theme of the conference, but it is not compulsory

If accepted:
- the abstract will be included in the conference abstract booklet
- you shoud consider preparing the room of your workshop, 1 to 2 hours maximum before the workshop starts 

Thematic activity workshop:

Facilitate a thematic workshop of 60, 90, 120, or 180-minutes during the conference at La Rochelle. The activity can be introducing a method, tool, or technique; engaging with participants in participatory design; having a focus group discussion; or any other program activity.
- Submit a text of 150 to 300 wordss, structured according to the template available for download at the bottom of this page, that explains the length of the workshop you ask for (60,90,120 or 180 mn), the minimum and maximum number of participants you need to run the workshop, the timing of workshop activity, the material you will bring, and the material you would need from the conference organizers
- Separate abstract required: 200 to 250 words
- Juried peer review process
- We encourage submissions that align with the theme of the conference, but it is not compulsory

If accepted:
- the abstract will be included in the conference abstract booklet
- you shoud consider preparing the room of your workshop, 1 to 2 hours maximum before the workshop starts 

Thematic sessions:

Organize a mini-symposium or a panel discussion, of 90 or 120-minutes during the conference at La Rochelle. The topic of the thematic session can be different from main theme, and we encourage topics that tackles future work in the wider field of simulation and games. Selection of presenters and session facilitation is under your responsibility. 
- Submit a 'main text' of 500 to 1,000 words including the topic of the session, the scientific issue tackled, the presenters contributing to the session, the references, figures and tables
- In addition, submit a organisational note of maximum 150 words that explain the timing of the session, and eventually the material you would need from the conference organizers
- juried peer review process
- We encourage submissions that tackles future work in the wider field of simulation and games

If accepted:
- the 'main text' of the thematic session will be included in the conference abstract booklet

Game exhibition stand:

Show, present or demonstrate a (simulation) game, an activity or a practice network related to simulation and gaming, during the game exhibition which will take place the 5th July afternoon in La Rochelle..
- Submit a text of 100 to 250 words that explain what and how you will show to the participants, the material you will bring, and the material you would need from the conference organizers
- Separate abstract required: 200 to 250 words that describes the (simulation) game, activity or practice network that will presented on the stand
- Juried peer review process
- We encourage submissions that align with the theme of the conference

If accepted:
- the abstract will be included in the conference abstract booklet
- a dedicated stand space will be prepared for you at the game exhibition hall. You will need to prepare your stand 1 to 2 hours before the exhibition starts
