Sociétés, mobilités, déplacements : les territoires de l'attente d'hier à aujourd'hui

le cas des mondes américains, XIXe XXe siècle

The research program ANR-Terriat, coodinated by professor Laurent Vidal (CRHIA/La Rochelle University) aims to analyze awaiting in Atlantic spaces in general and particularly in North, South and Central America. This study needs to be examined by different areas of social science (History, Geography, Sociology, Literature…).

One of its main objectives is to investigate the social dynamics that such pending can generate in the history of those societies : in refugee camps, ships, lazarets or even traffic jams. The American continent will be the main area of study for this project. Nevertheless, researchers taking part in the project are encouraged to consider other geographical areas, particularly in the Atlantic area. For the moment, three research hypotheses/objectives have been defined/fixed : 1. A typology of awaiting territories 2. Political Economy of waiting. 3. Waiting, Memory and Identity
