Prof. Steve Murdoch - The Swedish Defence University, StockholmSteve Murdoch has strong research interests in early modern warfare and conflict resolution. He has published widely on aspects of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) and Maritime Warfare (1513-1713). His main monographs include Network North: Scottish Kin, Cultural and Covert Associations in Northern Europe, 1603-1746 (2006); The Terror of the Seas? Scottish Maritime Warfare 1513-1713 (2010) and, with Alexia Grosjean, Alexander Leslie and the Scottish Generals of the Thirty Years’ War, 1618-1648 (2014).He has also published (among other editions) the legal tract Unimpeded Sailing: A Critical edition of Johan Grönings ‘Navigatio libera’ [Extended 1698 Edition] with Peter Maxwell Stuart and Leos Muller (2019). He is currently working on a project transcribing the diplomatic correspondence of General Sir James Spens 1618-1632, a Stuart and Swedish Vasa diplomat.He is presently employed as Professor and Chair of the Institute of Military History at the Swedish Defence University. |

Kathleen JamieKathleen Jamie’s poetry collections include The Overhaul, which won the 2012 Costa Poetry Prize, and The Tree House, which won the Forward prize. Her non-fiction includes the highly regarded Findings trilogy (Findings, Sightlines, and Surfacing), all regarded as important contributions to the 'new nature writing'. The Bonniest Company appeared in 2015, and won the Saltire Scottish Book of the Year Award.The Keeliehawk – Poems in Scots appeared in 2024. In the same year she published Cairn, a collection of fragments and micro-essays.From 2021-24, Kathleen served as Scotland’s Makar, or National Poet. |
