TRANSITION TO RENEWABLE ENERGIES: A REALITY CHECK
|
Marcel LACROIX Université de Sherbrooke, Canada |
Abstract
The transition to renewable energies (REs) appears to be the way towards a more sustainable world. But REs are not necessarily sustainable. History and fundamental principles reveal that the energy transition is far more challenging than expected. The challenges are examined and the physical constraints are discussed. It is shown that if REs meet our wants, they cannot meet our needs. It is to the world to adapt to REs. Not the other way around. Are we ready for it?
