Eighth IAPR International Workshop on Graphics RECognition - GREC 2009
City University of La Rochelle, France,

July 22-23, 2009

The Eighth International Workshop on Graphics Recognition (GREC2009), organized by IAPR TC-10 (Technical Committee on Graphics Recognition), will be held at the City University of La Rochelle, Fance on July 22-23, 2009, just before the 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), Barcelona, Spain. The GREC workshops provide an excellent opportunity for researchers and practitioners at all levels of experience to meet colleagues and to share new ideas and knowledge about graphics recognition methods. Graphics recognition is a subfield of document image analysis that deals with graphical entities in engineering drawings, maps, architectural plans, musical scores, mathematical notation, tables, diagrams, etc. GREC'09 will continue the tradition of the following past workshops:

  • GREC'95 in University Park, Pennsylvania, USA, August, 1995, LNCS Volume 1072, Springer, 1996.
  • GREC'97 in Nancy, France, August, 1997, LNCS Volume 1389, Springer, 1998.
  • GREC'99 in Jaipur, India, August, 1999, LNCS Volume 1941, Springer, 2000.
  • GREC01 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Sep. 7-8, 2001. LNCS Volume 2390, Springer, 2002.
  • GREC03 in Barcelona, Spain, July 30-31, 2003. LNCS Volume 3088, Springer, 2004.
  • GREC05 in City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Auugust 25-26, 2005. LNCS Volume 3926, Springer, 2006.
  • GREC07 in Curitiba, Brasil, September 20-21, 2007. LNCS Volume 5640, Springer, 2008.

Location:
The program will be organized in a single-track 2-day workshop. It will comprise several sessions dedicated to specific topics. For each session, there will be an invited presentation describing the state of the art and stating the open questions for the session's topic, followed by a number of short presentations that will contribute by proposing solutions to some of the questions or presenting results of the speaker's work. Each session will be concluded by a panel discussion.

Topics:
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Raster-to-vector techniques.
  • Recognition of graphical primitives.
  • Recognition of graphic symbols in charts, diagrams, and drawings.
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings, maps, tables, and other graphical documents.
  • Graphics-based information retrieval.
  • 3-D models from multiple 2-D views (line drawings).
  • Description of complete systems for interpretation graphic documents.
  • Performance evaluation in graphics recognition.
  • Authoring, editing, storing and presentation systems for graphics multimedia documents.

Contests:
As at the past workshops, we plan to continue some kinds of contests on graphics recognition at GREC'2009. Currently we have the two candidates:

Anyway, we are still open to other suggestions. Anyone who wants to run similar or other contest please contact the workshop chairs.
